Close Up on 5 Fingers of Death (coming soon)

A filmmaker explores the impact of Korean expat Jeong Chang Hwa's "5 Fingers of Death" on American popular culture.

5 Fingers of Death started a new global era of martial arts as cinema, but it is not well known that the Shaw Brothers director Jeong Chang-Hwa is a Korean. Dae Hoon Kim, a genre filmmaker who graduated with a Tisch NYU MFA adds his own musical soundtracks, has also programmed the Korean American Film Festival New York since 2006, and studied the dynamic between the Korean and African American communities through his documentary, “4.29: L.A. Riots”. After moving back to Korea as a new father, Dae Hoon wants to learn the essence of defining cinema from the master himself, to produce a new interpretation of martial arts cinema. He will dialogue with an array of Korean and American filmmakers, actors and martial artists deeply influenced by the film, to understand the impact of the film on the American psyche and the heart of K-Content.
